Thanks so much for participating in the Red Dawn blog tour and for letting me stop by Bengal Reads to talk about why I think people are so fascinated with the Paranormal genre!
I can only speak for myself, but I’ve always enjoyed losing myself in the paranormal, whether it be a book, movie, television series, or real live vamp slaying. (Okay, I made the last one up, but a girl can dream, right?) The genre certainly isn’t new, but it’s fair to say the craze for all things paranormal has reached epic proportions.
For me, there’s nothing better than tossing the real world aside and delving into a world full of mystery, danger, and intrigue. But lots of genres can offer the same, so what sets the paranormal apart?
Maybe it’s the lore of the unknown. Do ghosts exist? Are there [insert favorite paranormal creature here] among us? Are we alone in the universe? What would it be like to kiss a smokin’ hot paranormal?
Humans are imaginative and curious creatures. We can all scoff at Pandora for opening the box, but who among us wouldn’t do the same? I suspect if we really knew the truth about our favorite paranormal tales, the shine of the genre would be diminished.
The paranormal genre stretches the bounds of reality in new and different ways and is always evolving amidst the backdrop of the mundane real world in which we live every day. Working 9-5? Boring! Working 9-5 with a swoonworthy vamp? Tell me more!
I love the way a good paranormal story can spark my imagination, make my pulse race, and occasionally cause me sleep with the light on. Filled with dark undercurrents, life altering discoveries, and the promise of adventure, the paranormal genre offers something for everyone-- if you can open your mind and suspend reality even briefly. Not to mention the fact that there’s something inherently sexy about all things paranormal, and what’s not to like about that?
Perhaps this is why I’m drawn to YA Paranormal Romance as a writer. The promise of a first love is always fresh and exciting, wrought with raw emotions the potential for happily ever after or crushing heartache. But when you weave in a paranormal element? That brings the romance to a whole different level; one laced with unforeseen challenges, unexpected secrets, and the potential for an emotional rollercoaster that surpasses the conceivable.
