The strength of Sloane’s heart is about to be put to the ultimate test.

After the Eclipse – the night vampires began openly slaughtering human victims – everything changed. Out of fear, the government salvaged what remained of the human population and enclosed them in massive, security-laden cities called White Sectors, while marking the vampire infested territory as Red Sectors.

When seventeen-year-old Sloane McAllister’s twin brother disappears, she seems to be the only one who thinks he isn’t dead, and vows to stop at nothing to find him. Gathering her courage, she braves the Red Sector to search for clues to his whereabouts. By chance, she encounters Aden, a handsome, charismatic vampire with a hidden agenda. He turns Sloane against her will, and whisks her away to his underground city. Enemies quickly become friends as Sloane struggles against her attraction to Aden, and resists her growing loyalties to the creatures that ruined her life. But the vampires themselves are the least of her problems. The city is harboring a devastating secret, one that could change the tide of the war and threaten to destroy everything Sloane has come to believe in.

Heart-stopping action and scorching romance collide in this dystopian, urban fantasy thriller.

Character Interview

Kayla: Today I will be asking Sloane (from The Scarlet Dagger) some questions. I’ve wanted to do this since I’ve read The Scarlet Dagger!

Kayla: Hey Sloane. Thanks so much for taking a break from the Underground to come chat with me. I just have to say that I admire your courage and bravery, you rock!

Sloane: Oh, thanks. *smiles awkwardly* No problem. BELIEVE ME, I was glad to get away. As you can see *holds out arm* I definitely need to work on my tan. Oh, wait…. *sarcastic grin showing tips of fangs*

Kayla: So, starting out you decided to go to the Red Sector. What was running through your mind when you stepped foot into the Red Sector? (I would have been scared out of my mind, yes I’m a chicken)

Sloane: Ha! Actually, I’m a bit of a chicken on the inside, though for some reason I still do stupid stuff. And come on, let’s admit it: Going in there alone was stupid with a capital “S.” Um, but yeah, as to what I was feeling… terror? A little bit of hope. I just kept trying to think of Orion and that helped keep from completely freaking out.

Kayla: Here’s what I’d really like to ask, how are things with you and Aden? (*sigh*:)

Sloane: *blushes* I… *twists hands and plays with hair, looking anywhere but directly at Kayla* Things are, er, great. Things are great.

Kayla: What is your opinion on vampires, especially now that you are a vampire?

Sloane: You know, I completely did a 180 on the whole “hate vampires” thing. It was kind of hard not to. I mean, let’s compare: Mother #1 (aka My Mom) – cold, uncaring, power-hungry, crazy. Mother #2 (aka Mrs. Knight or Aden’s Mom AND a vampire) – loving, kind, generous when I’m being a brat and don’t deserve it. Plus there was Angel and Rook, so, yeah. How could I not end up liking them?

Kayla: I love a good fight, but I think you’d beat me in like .25 seconds lol, how did it feel being in the middle of the whole class in a swimming pool no less, fighting with the Instructor/Rook (Your brother’s best friend)?

Sloane: Freaking scary. *laughs* Rook is a tank, and when I saw him coming at me several expletives went through my head.

Kayla: How do you think Leo, your best friend; feels about you now that you are a vampire?

Sloane: *makes a face and groans* Leo, Leo, Leo… What am I going to do with him? Honestly, I’m not sure how he’s going to react. I guess we’ll see the next time we bump into each other.

Kayla: I just have to know, how do you deal with almost being killed on a daily basis? I’m surprised you could even sneak away to chat with me now.

Sloane: Skills, girl, skills. And you kind of get used to it after a while. *brushes off shoulder* Kidding. You never get used to that. I’m surprised my limo didn’t crash on the drive over.

Kayla: Thanks for answering my questions, now I want to get into some more general questions.

Kayla: Would you rather drink blood or soda?

Sloane: DR. PEPPER! Er - *coughs* - soda.

Kayla: Would you rather have night vision or super hearing if you had to choose?

Sloane: Hmmm… I think it’s much cooler to be able to see in the night. That way crap can’t sneak up on you, or, well, at least they’d have a harder time trying.

Kayla: Who would you rather be in a relationship with Aden or Leo, and why?

Sloane: Ooooohhh. Really? REALLY? You had to spring that on me? *groans* I’ll be completely, totally 100% real with you: It’s always been Aden. While I don’t think of Leo as a brother by any means, I can’t see myself being “with him,” if you know what I mean.

Kayla: What is your favorite weapon to fight with?

Sloane: A fork. *winks*

Kayla: Well that’s all that I can think of to ask. I enjoyed chatting with you. When the next book comes out I’m sure I’ll have even more questions than I do now!
